Ford hat seine Schulden in diesem Jahr bereits um 12,8 Mrd US-Dollar (9,5 Mrd Euro) abgebaut. Damit entlastet sich der US-Automobilhersteller um rund 1 Mrd US-Dollar (etwa 750 Mio Euro) Zinskosten pro Jahr.
In der Gesamtsumme enthalten ist ein Umtauschangebot Schulden gegen Aktien vom 26. Oktober 2010 in einem Umfang von 1,9 Mrd US-Dollar (rund 1,4 Mrd Euro). Ford wird den Besitzern (Convertible Note Holders) 534 Mio US-Dollar (rund 400 Mio Euro) bar zahlen. Darüber hinaus sollen sie 274 Millionen Ford-Aktien erhalten. Allein dieser Schritt wird die Zinsbelastung des Unternehmens um 180 Mio US-Dollar (etwa 135 Mio Euro) senken.
